Position
ESSA Funded Attendance Officer at Hackensack High School
LocationHackensack High School
Terms of EmploymentNormal working hours at HHS; office environment within the school
SalaryNon‑Bargaining Unit Position ($60,000 – $61,650)
Job Scope- Maintain accurate daily attendance records for all students.
- Track and report tardiness and early departures.
- Use the school's attendance management system to input and update attendance data.
- Ensure adherence to NJ state laws and school policies regarding attendance.
- Prepare and submit attendance reports to school administration and state authorities as required.
- Identify students with chronic absenteeism and report to the appropriate staff for intervention.
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student absences.
- Send out notifications for unexcused absences and excessive tardiness.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to address attendance issues.
- Conduct meetings with students and parents to discuss attendance concerns.
- Develop and implement attendance improvement plans for students with habitual absences.
- Provide resources and referrals to support services for students and families in need.
- Work with school counselors and social workers to identify and address barriers to regular attendance.
- Participate in attendance‑related meetings and trainings.
- Coordinate with external agencies and community organizations as necessary.
- Maintain confidential student records and attendance documentation.
- Ensure all attendance data is accurate and up‑to‑date.
- Archive attendance records in accordance with school policies and legal requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Previous experience in an educational setting or in attendance management is a plus.
- Strong organizational and record‑keeping skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in using computer systems and software for attendance tracking.
- Knowledge of state attendance laws and school policies.
This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders.
