Position Overview
The Township is seeking a licensed Physician to serve as Alternate Township Physician for Calendar Year 2026. This is a part-time municipal appointment, not a staffing or general medical services contract. The role carries defined statutory, clinical, and occupational health responsibilities in support of township employees, including public safety personnel.
The Alternate Township Physician will provide services on an as-needed basis and may not serve as the Township’s primary medical provider.
Scope of Work & Core Responsibilities
The Alternate Township Physician will be responsible for performing and/or overseeing the following services:
- Pre-employment, post-offer, and annual comprehensive medical examinations
- Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs)
- Evaluation, treatment, and referral for work-related injuries
- Police-specific medical testing, including but not limited to steroid testing
- Diagnostic testing, which may include:
- Lipid profiles
- Electrocardiograms (EKG)
- Pulmonary function testing
- Audiometry
- Vision testing
- Other required occupational health assessments
All services must be conducted in compliance with applicable state laws, municipal requirements, and professional standards of care.
Expected Volume (Estimated)
This position does not guarantee a minimum number of examinations or hours. Estimated annual volume includes:
- Approximately 10 pre-employment examinations per year
- Approximately 85 annual physical examinations per year
- Additional evaluations as needed, based on Township demand
- Part-Time / As-Needed
- Designated as Alternate Township Physician
- May be called upon to support or supplement the primary Township Physician
Qualifications
- Active New Jersey medical license in good standing
- Experience in occupational medicine, employee health, or public safety medical evaluations preferred
- Familiarity with police and municipal medical standards strongly desired
- Ability to perform independent medical evaluations and diagnostic testing
