An ISO 17025 accredited leader in metrology and calibration services, seeks an experienced Senior Robotics Engineer to lead the development, integration, and support of advanced robotic systems in pharmaceutical and life science environments. This individual will be responsible for designing and deploying automation solutions that interface with metrology instruments, cleanroom systems, and laboratory workflows. The ideal candidate brings strong robotics expertise along with a deep understanding of GMP, cleanroom operations, and validation requirements in the life sciences industry.
Responsibilities- Design, integrate, and implement robotic and automation systems for pharmaceutical manufacturing, clean rooms, and metrology equipment.
- Lead the development of robotic control systems, motion planning algorithms, and hardware integration using platforms such as ROS/ROS2, PLC/SCADA, and industrial robot arms (e.g., Fanuc, ABB, UR).
- Customize robotic systems for tasks such as sample handling, calibration automation, sensor alignment, and automated testing within cleanroom environments.
- Develop and maintain detailed design documentation, risk assessments, validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ), and SOPs.
- Interface with automation software, data acquisition platforms, and laboratory information systems (LIMS).
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior automation and robotics team members.
- Serve as a subject matter expert during system FAT/SAT, client audits, and regulatory inspections.
- Stay informed of emerging technologies in robotics, lab automation, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 5-10+ years of industry experience designing and deploying robotic systems in pharmaceutical, biotech, or highly regulated automation environments.
- Strong experience in motion control, sensor fusion, and robot programming (Python, C++, ladder logic, or structured text).
- Hands-on experience with lab automation, pick-and-place systems, or precision calibration automation.
- Deep knowledge of regulatory compliance for automated systems in life science facilities.
- Proficiency with CAD tools and electrical/mechanical design for robotic systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in both development and field-deployment contexts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional team collaboration and documentation.
- Experience with pharmaceutical automation platforms (e.g., Beckman Coulter, Tecan, Hamilton, or similar).
- Ability to integrate these platforms with custom software, robotic arms, and laboratory information management systems (LIMS). Familiarity with scripting protocols, plate handling, reagent dispensers, and high-throughput screening workflows.
- Ability to connect robotic systems with manufacturing execution systems (MES), SCADA, or laboratory data systems. Understanding of communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, Modbus, Ethernet/IP) and data integrity best practices in regulated environments.
- Knowledge of machine vision systems and AI-based control systems.
- Certified Automation Professional (CAP) or Robotic Systems Integration Certification (e.g., FANUC, ABB, or UR).
