Position: Supervisory General Engineer.

Duties

  • Works under the general direction of the Director of Public Works and serves as Chief of the Operations and Maintenance Division at a large multi‑mission installation.
  • Provides direct supervision of a multi‑disciplined professional and technical staff to support all installation maintenance and repair functions.
  • Provides advice and information on current and future programs.
  • Evaluates the annual and long‑range requirements.
  • Directs and supervises a multi‑disciplined team of professional engineers, technicians and inspectors to serve as staff technical advisors on all aspects of the buildings.
  • Performs engineering inspections, develops technical documentation, and prepares analytical reports on roofs, roof trusses, exterior painting, roads, bridges, airfields, elevated structures, storage tanks, and pressure vessels.
Requirements
  • Eligible for and must maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (25%) required.
  • Supervisory role per OPM’s General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). One‑year probation period required unless previously completed.
Education and Experience Basic Requirement for Supervisory General Engineer
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program or with required mathematics and engineering courses (statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, hydraulics, thermodynamics, electrical fields and circuits, nature and properties of materials or comparable areas).
Combination of

Education and Experience
  • Combination of college‑level education and professional experience that demonstrates knowledge of physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering and understanding of engineering sciences and techniques.
  • Professional registration or licensure: current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensed Professional Engineer (PE) issued by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • Passage of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or other required written test for registration.
  • Completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, including the specified courses.
  • Related curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree in a qualifying scientific field (e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) plus at least 1 year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
Specialized Experience
  • One year of specialized experience in reviewing facility construction drawings for technical sufficiency, providing technical advice on sustainment/repair and construction projects on existing buildings, and creating cost estimates for proposed projects.
Foreign Education
  • Foreign education credentials must be evaluated by a qualified organization and deemed equivalent to an accredited U.S. program, or full credit granted by an approved U.S. institution.
