Our client, a commercial real estate investment firm in Northern NJ, is seeking an analytical professional to add to their Development Accounting team. This role supports the financial oversight of active capital projects, with a focus on cost control, forecasting, and performance tracking throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, a solid accounting foundation, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to ensure accurate reporting and informed decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for project-level financial models once initiatives move into execution, incorporating approved budgets, forecasts, and cost structures
  • Partner with project and finance teams to produce regular financial updates, identify variances, and flag emerging risks
  • Prepare detailed schedules and analyses to support internal reporting, leadership reviews, and external stakeholders
  • Maintain and update financial projections based on progress, timing changes, and scope adjustments
  • Track leasing and contractual milestones in coordination with internal stakeholders, factoring in economic impacts and key dates
  • Collaborate with accounting teams to assess capitalization, accruals, and other GAAP-related considerations
  • Enhance financial coding and reporting processes to improve visibility into project activity
  • Validate monthly accruals and ensure accurate reflection of costs incurred
  • Maintain detailed cost and contract data within project accounting systems
  • Identify and support recovery opportunities related to vendor or tenant reimbursements
  • Prepare recurring journal entries and reconcile development-related accounts
  • Forecast project cash requirements and align with broader financial planning efforts
  • Support audits and internal controls initiatives, including compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Produce ad hoc reporting and analysis as business needs arise

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • 3-5+ years of relevant accounting or finance experience; exposure to capital projects or real estate strongly preferred
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple teams
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing competing priorities
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid project management and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Excel; experience with real estate or project accounting systems is a plus
