Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care based on physical, psychosocial, education, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the guests/patients served in assigned service.
  • Ensure patient outcomes through practice, judgment and critical actions; ongoing communication with patients, nursing colleagues and other health‑care team members about patient status and care provided.
  • Take self‑directed initiative to exceed expectations, improve performance and create new opportunities.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration of the patient’s plan of care from admission to discharge to ensure safe transition and continuum of care.
  • Participate in Unit/Department Performance Improvement activities.
Specific Job Functions (Examples)
  • Welcomes patients and checks for proper identification bracelets.
  • Prepares the patient for assessment/admission, physical examination and procedures.
  • Recognizes and responds to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Obtains clinical data—temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, O₂ saturation—and documents findings; notifies RN immediately of abnormal results.
  • Draws blood from patients of all ages using aseptic technique; labels and processes specimens promptly.
  • Performs venipuncture, EKGs, glucose finger‑sticks, and specimen transport.
  • Assists with hygiene, bathing, toileting, oral care, bed making, and dressing changes.
  • Maintains equipment, checks code carts, O₂, and emergency supplies; assures cleanliness.
  • Provides post‑mortem care and collaborates with RN for change in patient condition.
  • Performs additional duties and projects as assigned, adhering to HMH standards.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Completion of one of the following programs:
    Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Fundamentals of Nursing, or HMH PCT Apprenticeship Program.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing needs, and demonstrate accountability, teamwork, dedication to ongoing education, and a strong patient focus.
Preferred Experience
  • Phlebotomy and EKG certification; experience with vital signs and blood sugar monitoring.
  • At least one year PCT or CNA experience in a hospital setting.
  • Certification or completion of a PCT program that includes phlebotomy, EKG and nursing assistant courses.
Licenses & Certifications Required
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (Basic Life Support) HCP Certification within 60 days of starting.
Licenses & Certifications Preferred
  • Medical Office Assistant Certification.
Compensation

Minimum hourly rate of $21.40. Pay is determined based on market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, location, internal equity, and budget. Shift differentials and performance incentives may apply.
