Position: Manager, Respiratory Therapy Unit (Full-Time)

Responsibilities
  • Oversee, organize, staff, direct, and control the respiratory department assigned shift within the facility.
  • Supervise all administrative and technical service of the shift, delegating appropriate responsibilities to staff members, charge therapists, and equipment technicians.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with medical center and regulatory agency standards and operate within approved budgets.
  • Promote quality services through the development of Performance Improvement programs and executing best practices, pathways, protocols, equipment procurement, policies, and practices.
  • Review, develop, and implement departmental policies and procedures in line with network‑wide respiratory standardization initiatives.
  • Operational Management
    • Responsible for the overall direction and supervision of all components of the assigned shift in the respiratory department within the medical center.
    • Direct all activities of the respiratory department in accordance with applicable regulations, accreditation standards, certification and licensing requirements.
    • Adhere to the standards identified in the facility's organizational and managerial competencies and network‑wide respiratory policies and procedures.
    • Monitor, evaluate, and improve departmental operations, systems, and services, documenting and communicating findings appropriately.
    • Coordinate and oversee the implementation of all network‑wide policies and procedures.
    • Ensure all respiratory staff meet regulatory agency requirements and facility policies related to safety and security, including new employee orientation, periodic safety/disaster training, accident/incident reporting, and annual TJC and OSHA requirements.
    • In partnership with the Respiratory Director, evaluate, monitor, and update the training and orientation program for new employees per HMH HR policies.
    • Work with the facility Respiratory Director to ensure equipment meets community needs, maintaining equipment through centrally determined contractual services and monitoring repairs, purchases, and installations to meet all regulations.
    • Help the medical center achieve optimum patient experience by leveraging patient experience analyses and implementing relevant improvements to local respiratory processes.
    • Monitor, trend, and analyze incident reports to identify potential system flaws or staff compliance issues, ensuring a safe environment for patients.
    • Assist in developing budgets, monitoring key financial indicators and performance metrics, and implementing actions or process improvements aligned with network‑wide respiratory strategy.
    • Support the Respiratory Directors in implementing evidence‑based protocols through coordination with respiratory council, physicians, nursing, allied health professionals, and other related team members.
  • Local growth and performance
    • Seek out and initiate solutions to problems, including barriers to implementation of network‑level strategy at the facility.
    • Identify issues of importance and assist in developing relevant policies, programs, and proposals for potential implementation in coordination with the facility respiratory director, adhering to network policies and programs.
    • Share local insights and best practices on growth and performance with the facility respiratory director.
    • Achieve strategy targets for the assigned shift/facility set by site respiratory director, respiratory therapy CNO, and local CNO, seeking help when needed.
  • Quality and metrics
    • Work with relevant facility leaders to promote quality and safe, effective care throughout the organization.
    • Ensure appropriate service metrics are maintained, such as turnaround time.
