Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Hackensack, NJ (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, with rotational weekends and holidays)
Quest Diagnostics is hiring for a hospital-based position at HUMC.
Compensation$10,000 sign on bonus for external applicants only. Pay range: $32.00 - $50.73 / hour. Salary offers are based on skills, training, experience, education, certifications, market and organizational factors. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonuses.

Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring independent judgement, and support department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot all applicable instruments and procedures.
- Provide support to the department for quality control, complex problem resolution, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
- Perform and report analytical tests per SOP, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
- Adhere to laboratory policies for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance.
- Maintain turnaround time for results, including STATS or critical results.
- Manage reagent/test kit receipt, expiration, and opening dates.
- Perform and document QC analysis, making quality control decisions on assay disposition.
- Notify supervisor of all issues affecting test performance.
- Report deviations from standard procedures and cooperate with investigations.
- Enter test results into Laboratory Information System for physician reports.
- Maintain lab areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
- Complete training and competency checklists as required.
- Assist supervisor with training of other lab personnel.
- Comply with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety requirements.
- Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, or work practice controls as directed.
- Answer client or lab personnel questions.
- Participate in government or regulatory inspections.
- Assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor when qualified and delegated.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- One (1) year full‑time experience or training in high complexity testing within a clinical laboratory.
- Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with the most recent year in the present department.
- BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology; or Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
- Foreign‑educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF; U.S. candidates must provide transcript.
- ASCP certification preferred.
- Lifting and carrying: 1–10 lbs frequently; 11–25 lbs occasionally; 36–50 lbs seldom; >50 lbs requires assistance.
- Ability to stand at bench for long periods.
- Frequent walking and/or standing.
- Use of manual and automated pipettes and equipment requiring dexterity.
- Comprehensive knowledge in designated specialty.
- Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
- Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills.
- Detail‑oriented; able to work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Interpersonal skills for effective communication with supervisors, coworkers, and clients.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems.
- Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry (preferred).
- ASCP Certification (preferred).
