Patient Financial Navigator

Overview

Responsible for the complete and accurate registration of all patients in an orderly, expeditious and pleasant manner. Employee must have in-depth knowledge of insurance verification policies and procedures. Has understanding of computer terminals and printers in order to perform daily functions.

• Promptly answers, screens and processes insurance authorizations and telephone inquiries with strict adherence to confidentiality agreements, policies and procedures.
• Provides patients information on Holy Name Medical Center patient programs, policies and procedures.
• Collects and enters all patient insurance information into the appropriate medical service software to complete patient records. Collection includes validation of active insurance and ensuring all precertification documents are on file prior to patient receiving service. Documentation is to be concise, thorough and accurate.
• Determines patient benefit coverage and notifies the patient of any financial responsibility prior to patient receiving service. Includes follow up of all self-insured and underinsured patients.
• Responsible for the transition of the patient to the Financial Counseling Department.
• Meets outlined Holy Name Medical Center benchmarks and/or quality indicators as monitored through audits or recordings.
• Supports organizational changes. Demonstrates professionalism and flexibility in providing coverage and/or availability for the Call Center via scheduling adjustments for unexpected absences, events or call volume variances.

• High School graduate or equivalent

• 1-3 years experience with computerized data entry
• 1-3 years hands-on experience working with medical health insurance companies (specifically authorization)

• Ability to work independently.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, good communication skills and telephone technique.
• Must be able to work well under pressure.
