Overview
Sr. Medical Laboratory Scientist - Hackensack, NJ
, Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with rotational weekends. This is a hospital-based position at HUMC.
- Demonstrates all characteristics of Medical Technologist I and II
- Applies evidence-based criteria to correlate and interpret laboratory testing data
- Performs clinical validation to optimize laboratory testing as directed
- Assumes role of technical subject matter expert by troubleshooting instrumentation and assays
- Provides technical direction to the unit and serves as a resource for non-routine/complex inquiries from clients and sales representatives
- Assumes role of technical consultant and provides direction to team members regarding testing
- Designs and implements training materials; evaluates technical competencies and provides recommendations for continuing education
- Understands and interprets trends and variables when implementing QC theory and policies
- Reviews requests for validity checks and determines appropriate action considering specimen requirements and test quality
- Expedites workflow and coordinates improvements and problem resolution across laboratory departments
- Ensures unit activities comply with departmental policies and applicable regulations
- Participates in special projects as assigned; performs other duties as directed by Supervisor
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of clinical experience with two (2) years in the present department
- If Sr MLS is asked to perform delegated supervisory duties, the following qualifications apply:
- Master of Science Degree in biological or chemical science and two (2) years of work experience as a Medical Lab Scientist in the designated laboratory specialty
- At least four (4) years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience after qualifying as a Medical Lab Scientist
- If operating within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, at least six (6) years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience after qualifying as a Medical Lab Scientist
- If HEW certified, eight (8) years or more in the same department
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Demonstrates effective communication and collaboration within the department and with other functions and clients
- Ability to establish work priorities and handle multiple procedures including troubleshooting instruments
- Ability to schedule and manage resources to meet department goals
- Must protect patient confidentiality at all times
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry or an Associate degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology or qualifying as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (Required)
- Foreign-educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF (Required)
- United States educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript (Required)
- ASCP Certified or eligible

BenefitsPay range: $33.81 - $55.81 per hour. Salary offers are based on factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and certifications. Market and organizational factors are considered. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonus compensation. Benefits information available upon request.
