Position
Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Hackensack, NJ. Monday through Friday 3:00 PM–11:30 PM; one to two Sunday overnight shifts each month 11:00 PM–7:30 AM. Hospital‑based at HUMC.
Pay$32.00–$50.73 / hour. Eligible for shift differential 10% (second shift) and 15% (third shift). Additional details provided upon offer. Salary based on skills, experience, education. May be eligible for annual performance bonus.

- Proficiency in all testing areas; troubleshoot instruments and procedures.
- Support quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
- Perform and report assigned analytical tests following SOPs and quality control requirements.
- Support laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
- Maintain turnaround times for results, including STAT or critical results.
- Track reagent and kit dates, ensuring expiration and opened dates.
- Document QC analysis and make quality control decisions regarding assay disposition.
- Report problems to supervisory personnel and participate in investigations.
- Enter results into the Laboratory Information System for physician review.
- Maintain laboratory area and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
- Complete training and competency checklists.
- Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
- Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
- Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, or work‑practice controls as directed.
- Answer client or lab personnel questions, if applicable.
- Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed.
- Assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor, if qualified and delegated.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required work experience: One (1) year full‑time experience in high‑complexity clinical laboratory testing.
Preferred work experience: Minimum 3 years of clinical experience, most recent in the present department.
Physical and Mental Requirements- Lift and carry objects: 1–10 lbs frequently; 11–25 lbs occasionally; 36–50 lbs seldom; >50 lbs requires assistance.
- Stand and work at the bench for long periods.
- Frequent walking and/or standing.
- Use various manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments requiring manual dexterity.
- Comprehensive knowledge in designated specialty.
- Knowledge of organizational and departmental policies.
- BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology, or Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or prior qualification as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433.
- Foreign‑educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF; U.S.‑educated candidates must provide original transcript.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
- Associate’s Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (Preferred).
- Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry (Preferred).
- ASCP Certification (Preferred).
