Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP) who is fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) to provide individualized in-home support to an adult with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In this role, you will assist the individual with daily living activities, promote independence, and foster meaningful community engagement while ensuring effective communication through ASL. The ideal candidate is patient, reliable, and committed to providing person-centered care in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.

As a Direct Support Professional, you'll have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships, promote independence, and positively impact the lives of the individuals you support every day.

Spectrum Support collaborates with organizations that support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • Provide person-centered support with daily self-care activities in the individual's home.
  • Support the individual in managing social anxiety by encouraging participation in community and social activities while respecting personal comfort levels.
  • Provide supervision and ensure safety when the individual is using the stove or preparing meals.
  • Transport the individual safely to appointments, community outings, recreational activities, and other scheduled events using a personal vehicle, as required.
  • Communicate effectively using American Sign Language (ASL) to ensure clear, respectful, and meaningful interactions.
  • Promote independence, dignity, and choice while assisting with daily living activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Follow all agency policies and procedures to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the individual served.
Qualifications
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation.
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while following individualized support plans.
  • Dependable, compassionate, patient, and committed to providing person-centered care.
  • Ability to safely assist with daily living activities and accompany individuals in the community.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
Employment Requirements
  • Successful completion of background checks, fingerprinting, and drug screening.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of required certifications and trainings, including CPR, First Aid, Handle With Care, and College of Direct Support (CDS) coursework.
  • Ability to remain alert and awake throughout all scheduled working hours.
  • Maintain reliable telephone access for scheduling and emergency communication.
