The technologist assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures. This role involves performing complex CT procedures using professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining the patient's clinical history. The technologist ensures this information is documented and scanned. Preparation includes screening and reviewing the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient or family member.

Identifying and administering contrast media related to CT exams, as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, is required. Verifying the appropriateness of the exam by reviewing the patient prescription and communicating with the Radiologist and Referring Physician is essential. Clarifying prescriptions in accordance with appropriate CT protocols is the responsibility of the technologist. Verifying insurance authorized exam scripts and sending exam modification forms for insurance re-verification is required.

Obtaining outside studies and scheduling them to ensure availability in PACS for Radiologists to compare is also a duty. Providing exam copies to the patient, requesting physician, or family member is expected. The technologist evaluates radiographs using the PACS system to ensure proper identification and diagnostic value. Gathering relevant information from the medical record and healthcare providers helps prepare protocols for scanning.

Also, determining whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for the procedure is crucial. Prepping patients for scanning includes implementing shielding and immobilization devices. Determining the appropriate type and dose of contrast media to be administered is part of the role. Accurate explanations and instructions at a level the patient can understand are provided, addressing questions and concerns when necessary.

Performing venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines is required. Monitoring the patient's physical condition for any adverse reactions during the procedure is essential. Responsible shifts include scheduled holidays and weekends. Identifying the needs of the patient population served and delivering care specific to those needs is vital. Communication with the patient, parent, and primary caregivers is done at their level.
