Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Hodgson Russ LLP, a regional law firm with two hundred plus attorneys in nine offices, is seeking a Patent Agent to join our busy Intellectual Property team, resident in any of our offices in New York (Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, or Saratoga Springs) or Hackensack, New Jersey. In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Drafting U.S. and international patent applications relating to small-molecule chemistry, pharmaceuticals and drug formulations, polymers, materials and chemical compositions, and chemical processes and manufacturing methods.
- Preparing and filing responses for United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and coordinates patent prosecution instructions to foreign associations.
- Analyzing invention disclosures and conferring with inventors to determine patentability.
- Conducting prior art searches and patentability assessments.
- Identifying possible arguments to pursue in office action response based on review and comparison of examiner’s rejections and cited references.
To succeed in this role, you will need excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, ability to meet deadlines, identify and anticipate needs, and follow through. A master’s or PhD. in chemistry or related field with a broad range of courses is required. Must be registered before the USPTO in good standing with three years’ full-time experience working as a Patent Agent.

At this time, the good faith estimate of the annual salary range for this position, if the successful applicant is based in New York (Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, or Saratoga Springs) or Hackensack, New Jersey is $69,700 to $85,500.
Where a successful applicant is slotted within this range will vary based on legitimate criteria, such as experience and skill level.
