Position: REGISTERED NURSE - SURGICAL ICU - P/T WITH BENEFITS NIGHTS

Overview

As an RN in Surgical ICU, you will contribute to an interdisciplinary team, deliver evidence‑based nursing care, and support the well‑being of patients, families, and colleagues.

Responsibilities
  • Perform assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or the situation.
  • Conduct age‑ and disease‑specific assessments independently in a systematic manner focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Recognize clinical and diagnostic status changes in patient condition.
  • Identify variables in patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and culturally specific learning differences.
  • Develop a plan of care that prescribes strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Formulate age‑ and disease‑specific patient/family‑centered goals and outcomes based on assessment data.
  • Coordinate a plan of care which is patient/family focused, prioritized, and encompasses the continuum of care.
  • Communicate, coordinate, and implement the plan of care with nursing colleagues and other health‑care team members.
  • Provide ongoing communication with patient/family, nursing colleagues, and other team members regarding status, care, and treatment plans.
  • Implement age‑ and disease‑specific care in an organized and timely manner.
  • Provide or coordinate patient/family education as needed and ensure understanding.
  • Perform according to established protocols in clinical situations, including documenting events.
  • Provide nursing care and treatments that reflect patients' needs, advocate appropriately, and demonstrate evidence‑based practice and compliance with standards.
  • Perform continuous Point‑of‑Care electronic documentation of each patient’s assessments, plan‑of‑care, interventions, and evaluation of rendered care.
  • Administer medication utilizing bar‑scanning and documentation technologies to ensure the safest delivery of medications.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary discharge planning to ensure safe transition and continuum of care.
  • Evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes.
  • Utilize critical‑thinking skills based on nursing knowledge to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Initiate interventions related to patient condition changes and unexpected responses to care.
  • Identify ethical issues in the practice setting and bring them to the attention of other team members.
  • Recognize and respond to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain necessary competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet accreditation and licensing requirements.
  • Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
  • Lift a minimum of 35 lbs, push/pull a minimum of 10 lbs, and stand a minimum of 6 hours a day.
  • Adhere to HMH’s organizational and managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of an Associate in Nursing or Nursing Diploma.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in progress and/or willingness to obtain within three (3) years of hire.
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse license at the assigned HMH location by hire date.
  • BLS/CPR certification by American Heart Association required within 60 days of hire.
  • Six (6) or more months of relevant nursing experience or active participation in HMH's Nurse Residency Program.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing patient needs, strong sense of accountability, exceptional teamwork focus, dedication to ongoing education, and passion for delivering high‑quality patient care.
  • National certification in area of specialty preferred when eligible.
