DescriptionThe Registered Nurse functions as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. The role expands knowledge and skills, provides direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team, directs and oversees care by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination. The RN coordinates patient care/unit activities among peers, physicians, and support services.
Responsibilities- Assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
- Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or situation.
- Perform age‑ and disease‑specific assessments independently.
- Recognize clinical and diagnostic status changes.
- Identify variables in patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and cultural differences.
- Develop a plan of care with strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Formulate patient/family centered goals and outcomes.
- Communicate and coordinate the plan of care with the health‑care team.
- Provide ongoing communication with patient/family and colleagues regarding status and treatment plans.
- Perform age‑ and disease‑specific care in an organized and timely manner.
- Coordinate patient/family education and ensure understanding.
- Document events per protocols in electronic health records.
- Administer medication using bar‑scanning and documentation technologies.
- Participate in multidisciplinary discharge planning for safe transition and continuity of care.
- Evaluate progress toward outcomes.
- Use critical‑thinking skills based on nursing knowledge.
- Initiate interventions related to changes in patient condition.
- Identify ethical issues and bring them to team attention.
- Respond to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
- Maintain competencies, certifications, and continuing education.
- Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code and HMH Organizational competencies.
- Lift a minimum of 35 lbs., push/pull a minimum of 10 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 6 hours daily.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
- Associate in Nursing or Nursing diploma; BSN in progress or willing to attain within 3 years.
- Current and valid RN license for the assigned HMH location by hire date.
- BLS/CPR certification by American Heart Association within 60 days.
- Six months or more of relevant nursing experience or active participation in the HMH Nurse Residency Program.
- Strong learning ability, accountability, teamwork, continual education, and patient focus.
- National certification in specialty preferred when eligible.
The starting rate of pay is informational only and may be determined at the time of offer based on labor market data, experience, education, skills, location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. Some positions may include performance incentives, bonuses, or shift differentials. Additional benefits include health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement plans.
