Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician II.
Duties- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, differentials, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, air conditioning, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
- Manage parts inventory and equipment on company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with clients to assess their needs, providing assistance and resolving problems.
- Prioritize concurrent assigned tasks and manage time allocations efficiently.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using an iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently and manage daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most Standard Repair Times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain repair estimate approvals, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss Repair Order findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain the company‑issued service truck and conduct safety checks and daily pre/post trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field. Alternative combinations include a degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED; or 5 years’ experience.
- At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for required duties.
- OEM training and certifications are preferred.
- Participate in and complete all company‑required training.
- Ability to successfully complete and pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical.
- A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
- Candidates must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license required; candidate must maintain a Driver Qualification File.
