French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Construction Engineering Department in Hackettstown, NJ. Construction Inspection & Field Experience

FPA’s Construction Engineering Department supports land development and municipal infrastructure projects throughout New Jersey, providing inspection services for site development, roadway, utility, and stormwater infrastructure improvements

The Construction Inspector will observe contractor activities, verify compliance with project requirements, document progress and installed quantities, and support the resolution of field issues while collaborating with FPA’s multidisciplinary engineering teams. The role offers exposure to a diverse range of projects throughout New Jersey.

Responsibilities
  • Observe and inspect construction activities for land development and municipal infrastructure projects, including site grading, roadway improvements, water distribution systems, sanitary sewer systems, and stormwater management facilities.
  • Monitor contractor work to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, local regulations, and applicable engineering standards.
  • Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities, site conditions, installed quantities, workforce/equipment on site, and overall project progress.
  • Track and verify installed quantities to support payment applications, cost tracking, and project documentation.
  • Capture and maintain photographic documentation of construction progress, milestones, and field conditions.
  • Serve as a field liaison between contractors, municipal clients, utility agencies, and the design team to support communication and resolve field issues.
  • Attend construction progress meetings and provide updates on work status, schedule adherence, and field challenges.
  • Verify materials, equipment, and workmanship meet project specifications, quality standards, and contract requirements.
  • Assist with review of shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders as directed by project engineers or managers.
  • Monitor project schedules and proactively communicate potential delays or impacts to project management.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and report unsafe conditions or practices observed in the field.
