Job Description

The primary role of the Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and demonstrating proficiency in various phlebotomy techniques.

Responsibilities

* Conduct blood draws and label specimens accurately.

* Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.

* Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.

* Explain the process of venipuncture and specimen collection clearly and courteously.

* Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.

* Understand and execute physicians' orders accurately.

* Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

* Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

* Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.

* Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper storage and temperature requirements are met.

* Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

* Attend annual department trainings.

* Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

* Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by state regulations.

* Minimum of 3 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

* High School Diploma or GED.

* 0-2 years of relevant experience.

* Experience working with all age groups.

Work Environment

This is a float position requiring travel between locations in Succasunna, Hackettstown, Landing, and Phillipsburg. Training will be conducted at the Succasunna location. Working hours vary between 6:00 AM and 3:30 PM from Monday to Friday, and 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturdays, with a day off during the week. The role involves working in a Patient Service Center (PSC) environment as part of a team.

The position involves conducting 30-40 draws daily, depending on the site. Initial training is one week long, with continued training as needed.

This is a Contract position based out of Hackettstown, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
