Job Description
Responsible for preparing and rendering radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic and therapeutic studies, utilizing variety of equipment while following prescribed procedures.
Principal Accountabilities- Mixes stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculates doses, and administers doses, under direction of physician.
- Calibrates equipment.
- Performs diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by physician, using scanners or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce image of organ on photographic film.
- Measures radioactivity, using Geiger counters, scalers, and scintillation detectors.
- Administers therapeutic doses of radiopharmaceuticals under direction of physician.
- Follows radiation safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials.
- Other duties as assigned.
- HS Diploma or equivalent experience.
- Graduate of AMA approved school of Nuclear Medicine required.
- Employment history of working in an office-based setting is preferred.
- Specific certification related to position or associates degree/technical degree in related field. All licenses and certifications needed to fulfill the duties required of a technician at the state(s) and/or national level.
- Current license with the NJDEP in nuclear medicine.
- Registration or certification by ARRT, NMTCB, or CAMRT.
