Nurse Prof Dev Specialist - Maternal Child

The Nurse Professional Development Specialist (NPD) is a Registered Nurse/Educator with an Advanced Nursing Degree who creates and facilitates educational programs that enhance clinical practice, staff competence, and patient outcomes.

• Design and facilitate teaching strategies that promote application of knowledge and skills to practice; develop educational programs and materials.
• Plan orientation and competency requirements for staff, managing transitions between clinical settings and practice gaps.
• Lead change initiatives, conduct needs assessments, and evaluate program outcomes to support organizational innovation.
• Mentor nurses, encouraging lifelong learning and facilitating professional growth and role transitions.
• Align educational activities with organizational goals, participate in legislative, regulatory, and accrediting bodies, and monitor investment returns for educational programming.
• Apply research and evidence‑based practice to clinical development, conduct or facilitate research, and disseminate findings to the nursing community.
• Participate in patient safety and quality initiatives, chair or serve on hospital‑wide committees, and uphold organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
• Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

• Graduate degree (Master’s or higher) in Nursing or a related field; if the graduate degree is in a related field, a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required.
• Graduate of an NLN/AACN accredited nursing program.
• Minimum of 3 years of current nursing experience in an acute‑care hospital.
• Minimum of 5 years of current experience in Maternal‑Child Health (Postpartum, NICU, Labor & Delivery); certification in OB or EFM required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.
• Knowledge of Magnet Recognition Program.
• Must maintain required competencies, certifications, and continuing education for licensure and accreditation, such as ACLS, NRP, and PALS.

• Previous professional development experience or teaching/education background.
• Experience with curriculum development, evaluation methods, and professional development hour calculation.
• Licenses and certifications: NJ State Registered Nurse license, AHA Basic Health Care Professional certification, Nursing Professional Development Advanced Board certification, and other specialty certifications.
