The Development and Alumni Relations Office at Saint James School in Hagerstown, Maryland, is seeking a full‑time Development Associate to work as an integral part of the Development team. The Development team raises funds from individuals, foundations, and corporations to provide financial support to the School. The team also organizes and provides staffing for a variety of on‑ and off‑campus events for alumni, parents, and friends of the School.

The Development Associate will be responsible for a variety of essential development‑related projects including processing donations, assisting with correspondence, communicating by phone and email with various constituencies, and assisting with event planning. This is a professional position with the opportunity to grow in the field of fundraising.

The Development Associate reports to the Director of Development and Alumni Relations.

Position Responsibilities
  • Perform CRM/database management including entering gifts, running reports, and maintaining data health.
  • Use critical thinking for effective reporting and data analysis.
  • Donor Stewardship:
    Interact with a diverse array of individuals across a variety of constituencies and ages. Groups include donors, alums, students, parents, faculty, staff, and vendors.
  • Communications:
    Assist the Associate Director of Development and Alumni Relations with various printed and electronic mailings and other constituent correspondence via email and phone, including professional content writing, layout, and strategy.
  • Event Support:
    Assist the Associate Director of Development and Alumni Relations with planning, executing, and participating in events, including on‑campus donor events, Alumni Weekend, off‑campus alumni receptions, and other campus events as needed. Work at evening and weekend events will be required several times each school year.
  • General Administrative Duties:
    This includes, but is not limited to, office organization, filing, and maintaining general office supply inventories.
Qualifications
  • Experience in a private or independent school preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including standard business letters and professional emails.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with quality assurance steps including proofing, editing, and monitoring trends.
  • Experience with fundraising, client management, or customer service.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to relate to individuals from all backgrounds.
  • Excellent computer skills, including competency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Experience with database software is a plus, but not required.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills required.
  • Ability to efficiently handle multiple responsibilities.
  • Be a proactive self‑starter who enjoys working both collaboratively and independently.

  • Must pass a criminal background check and hold a valid driver’s license.
