Summary of Position

We're hiring a motivated Building Estimator to join our expanding Building division at our Hagerstown, MD office. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing estimates for various project components and collaborating closely within a team environment.

Ideal candidates will have a background in Engineering or Construction Management, relevant field experience, proficient computer skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proactive attitude toward learning and growth.

Please note that this position is considered safety sensitive in accordance with Kinsley Construction policies and procedures.

Typical Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Prepare scopes of work for subcontractors on upcoming bids.
  • Directly communicate with subcontractors through various channels to ensure coverage.
  • Review plans and specifications and prepare RFI's.
  • Manage bid opportunities and track coverage through Smart Bid software.
  • Create detailed estimates and update project estimates using Timberline software.
  • Prepare various takeoffs for various project components including, but not limited to, concrete, steel, carpentry, doors, specialties, and equipment installations.
  • Obtain competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate material purchases and orders with the Project Manager.
  • Monitor cost on projects for variances to the estimate and for use in preparation of bids on future projects.
  • Stay updated on construction technology and methods.
  • Collaborate with the project team on strategy and project procurement.
  • Secure required bid bonds and coordinate insurance requirements.
  • Review contract requirements with in-house legal and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate final scope, contract, manpower, and schedule with subcontractors' pre-award.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Prior field construction experience preferred.
  • Advanced comprehension of drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in construction and estimating software:
    • Timberline
    • Microsoft Schedule
    • Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Quantity take-off systems: QTO, OST & Paydirt
    • Heavy Bid.
