- Hours:
7 hours per day, 10‑month work year - Reports to:
Building Administrator - Grade Level: 6, Step 1
Assist teachers by working with individual students or small groups, support daily recess duties for multiple grade levels, and maintain a safe, orderly recess environment.
Responsibilities- Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce skills introduced by teachers.
- Assist students in generalizing social skills and problem‑solving skills in the general education setting.
- Support recess duty by leading organized games and managing student behavior.
- Collaborate with teachers to devise special strategies for reinforcing skills and instruction.
- Help maintain classroom organization and a positive learning environment.
- Operate and assist with classroom equipment.
- Supervise and manage students during instructional and non‑instructional activities.
- Provide physical care and management of students as needed and appropriate.
- Follow through on individual programs designed by teachers.
- Participate in and provide input for team planning functions as appropriate.
- Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Highly Qualified status (AA degree, 48 credit hours, or successful completion of the Paraprofessional Praxis test).
- Effective technology skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations involving verbally or physically aggressive students.
- Ability to lift 30–50 pounds in specified situations.
- Ability to assist with physical restraint maneuvers when needed.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Fundamental reading, writing, arithmetic, and communication skills.
- Understanding and following directions.
- Ability to work harmoniously with children, staff, and community.
- Training and experience with populations relevant to the assigned school.
- Training and experience applying behavior modification strategies with students.
- Periodic sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Movement around the building and grounds for extended periods.
- Use of sensory skills to communicate and interact.
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
- Ability to move, raise, lower, and carry objects up to 20 lbs. irregularly.
- Ability to bend, crouch, stoop, reach, and climb.
- Tolerance to loud noises and traffic flow in a populated office environment.
