OVERVIEW

The Senior Aerospace Science Instructor (SASI) and Aerospace Science Instructor (ASI) provide instruction and leadership to high school cadets enrolled in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program. These positions manage and implement the JROTC curriculum and activities in alignment with national, state, and district standards. The instructors ensure compliance with Air Force and district requirements while promoting cadet physical development and intellectual, social and patriotic education.

  • Foster academic achievement by setting high standards, removing barriers, and providing rigorous, relevant, evidence-based, and innovative instruction.
  • Set ambitious goals for instruction and student learning, effectively planning and monitoring progress.
  • Recognize and adapt to diverse learning styles, ensuring all students learn and thrive.
  • Deliver 180 hours of military-directed instruction in classroom and leadership laboratory settings.
  • Implement the Air Force's national curriculum, lesson plans, and related extracurricular activities.
  • Assess and document student progress through formal and informal evaluations.
  • Mentor, counsel, and tutor cadets to support academic and leadership growth.
  • Supervise extracurricular teams (drill, rocketry, marksmanship, physical training, academic challenge) and key cadet leadership positions.
  • Coordinate and oversee special events.
  • Maintain effective discipline and classroom management procedures.
  • Manage cadet records in the automated database and assist with required Air Force and district reporting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Retired Air Force Non-Commissioned Officer (E6–E9) or Officer (O3-O6) from active duty or Reserve/National Guard.
  • Eight years of service.
  • Eligible for Federal JROTC Instructor Certification.
  • Associate degree (enlisted), or Bachelor's degree (officer).
  • Completion the AFJROTC Background Check, a Tier-1 investigation with Childcare Inquiries.
  • Air Force Junior ROTC Form 200.
  • Last 5 years' performance reports/briefs.
  • Meet Air Force height, weight and physical fitness standards and grooming requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and technology skills.
  • Willingness to wear the appropriate service uniform.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including empathy, teamwork, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and emotional control; maintain organization and punctuality.
