The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Traffic (Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties) is currently recruiting for a District Utility Engineer (Transportation Engineering Manager II) position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. All eligible candidates must meet the minimum and selective qualifications by the closing date. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy.

Nature of Work

The overall purpose of this position is to provide leadership as the supervising manager of a staff of at least three professional level subordinate transportation engineers. This employee is responsible for oversight of all major transportation projects and daily traffic operations, including safety and efficiency along all State highways in Montgomery or Prince Georges Counties, and is the liaison between the Assistant District Engineer of Traffic (ADE-T) and all other engineering offices at SHA including all other Districts offices.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
:
Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience
:
Eight (8) years of experience in professional engineering, including one (1) year of supervisory or consultant management experience.

Selective Qualification
:
Four (4) years of the required experience must be in professional traffic engineering

  • This statement contains a selective qualification, which is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill or ability).

Preferred Qualification
Professional engineering license related to traffic.

Notes

  • Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
  • Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the non- supervisory experience.
  • Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements

Licenses & Certifications

Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
