Transportation Engineering Technician II

Responsibilities
  • Operate specialized testing vehicles and trailers up to 26,000 lb GVWR for roadway testing on the SHA network.
  • Conduct surface friction testing and operate Automatic Road Analyzer (ARAN) data collection systems, performing routine and periodical safety and operational checks on vehicles.
  • Assist in roadway testing data collection under guidance of the Pavement Testing Team Leader, ARAN or Friction Crew Chief.
  • Perform testing duties in the absence of the crew chief.
  • Travel statewide, including overnight stays up to 2 weeks during the data collection season.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Minimum one year of technical engineering related experience in design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle or equipment with and without a trailer attached up to 26,000 lb GVWR.
  • Valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Preferred:
    Associates degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying or related field, or 30 semester credit hours of a civil engineering curriculum.
  • Requirement for background and reference checks applies.
