Engineer – Mechanical

The role involves designing functional, reliable, and cost‑effective heavy‑duty vehicle components. Perform engineering analysis and design or re‑design, and development of components into existing and new vehicles.

• Under close supervision, perform basic engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks as assigned according to Oshkosh as well as general industry engineering standards and processes.
• Support senior engineers in the preparation of basic plans, designs, computation methods, and/or reporting.
• Under close supervision, work on projects of limited complexity in a support role.
• Collaborate as needed with other engineering or business support disciplines internally as well as suppliers externally.
• Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues.
• Enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards. Ensure that technical issues are conducted within the framework of company policies and procedures.
• Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability.
• Perform and direct preparation of layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
• Perform engineering analysis to support the selection of parts, components, and materials that meet requirements.
• Provide non‑complex technical assistance for production support.
• Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering via verbal or written communication.
• Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.
• Utilize analytical and mathematical approaches to calculate or model system performance and optimize designs.
• Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering and communicate status via verbal or written communication.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Regular attendance is required.

• Accredited bachelor's degree in engineering or related field along with internship experience or six (6) or more months of related work experience.

• Accredited bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
• Mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy‑vehicle equipment and related systems.
• Experience with a high‑level CAD system.

• Internal contacts: explanation of information to peers and others; gathering factual information; communication of sensitive or confidential information.
• External contacts: limited external contact to gather information, answer queries, or ask for assistance.
• Communication skills: read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos; read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; write routine reports, correspondence and speak effectively before both internal and external groups; read, analyze and interpret business manuals, technical procedures and/or government regulations; read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
• Complexity, judgment and problem solving: generally structured work, but involving a choice of action within limits of standard policy and procedures.
• Supervisory/managerial: general instructing, scheduling, and reviewing the work of others performing the same or directly related work. Acts as “lead worker”.
