Job Description
Senior Mechanical Engineer responsible for designing functional, reliable and cost‑effective heavy‑duty vehicle components. Performs engineering analysis and redesign, develops new components, and provides integration and execution support for existing and new vehicles. Supports the Cost Management team across JLG and Jerr‑Dan products, applying analysis, design optimization, process improvement, and VA/VE practices to deliver competitive, sustainable solutions while maintaining product performance, quality, safety, reliability, and customer value.
Responsibilities- Perform engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks per Oshkosh and industry standards.
- Support senior engineers in preparing plans, designs, computational methods, and reporting.
- Lead projects or project portions with defined scope and cross‑functional impact.
- Implement initiatives that improve product competitiveness through analysis, design optimization, benchmarking, and VA/VE practices.
- Coordinate with onsite and offshore engineering resources for tear‑down evaluations, benchmarking, technical assessments, documentation, and recommendation development.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to identify, evaluate, prioritize, and implement technical solutions that enhance product value.
- Manage multiple concurrent Cost Management initiatives with strong organization and follow‑through.
- Develop improved processes, tools, documentation, and project execution practices.
- Mentor entry‑level engineers, designers, or technicians.
- Communicate with suppliers, customers, and external resources concerning technical issues.
- Enforce engineering criteria and drawing standards, ensuring compliance with company policies.
- Prepare layouts, drawings, specifications, and BOMs.
- Analyze and support part and process selections to meet requirements.
- Provide technical assistance for production support.
- Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.
- Maintain project documentation and historical records.
- Use analytical and mathematical methods to model system performance and optimize designs.
- Analyze and resolve engineering issues, reporting status verbally or in writing.
- Perform other duties as assigned; regular attendance required.
- Accredited bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- Three (3) or more years of related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy‑vehicle equipment and related systems.
- Experience with a high‑level CAD system.
- Experience with value analysis/value engineering, product benchmarking, tear‑down analysis, design optimization, product cost management, or similar initiatives.
- Experience working across multiple product platforms, families, or vehicle systems.
- Experience coordinating with offshore engineering teams, technical centers, suppliers, or globally distributed project teams.
- Experience with bills of material, cost‑based BOMs, component cost drivers, supplier quotations, or manufacturing process considerations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, drive follow‑through, and work effectively in a cross‑functional environment.
Pay Range: $73,200.00 – $. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Individual pay is determined by scope, responsibility, experience, education, and skills.
