Overview

At Sierra Nevada Corporation, you will work in multidisciplinary teams to bring concept of operations to fruition and further our customers’ mission objectives. As a Manufacturing Engineer in our Hagerstown, MD location, you will play a critical role in our special mission aircraft efforts and help lead the way in developing next‑generation Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms.
ResponsibilitiesYour responsibilities will include consulting with program management, design engineers, quality assurance, and production teams to develop the most efficient and cost‑effective means of producing our products at the highest quality possible. You will review engineering designs for producibility and oversee all aspects of design conception through implementation, including the development of tooling and fixtures, work instructions, and production processes and procedures.
Additionally, you will apply manufacturing technologies and industry best practices during the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring that our special mission aircraft are built to the highest standards and performance criteria.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Avionics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline, and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience in avionics or aircraft electrical systems.
- Higher education may substitute for relevant experience.
- Familiarity with applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5, particularly as it applies to avionics components and assemblies.
- Capability of working in multi‑disciplinary teams, including close collaboration with avionics engineers, technicians, and quality assurance.
- Experience developing work instructions/travelers specific to avionics assembly, wiring, and system integration.
- Exposure to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems, with an emphasis on avionics‑related product data and processes.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints for aircraft and avionic systems.
- Hands‑on experience with wiring installation, troubleshooting, and repair in avionics and aircraft electrical systems.
- Knowledge of assembling and installing connectors, wire harnesses, and electronic components typically used in aerospace and avionic applications.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Secret Security Clearance.
- Direct background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, specifically within avionics integration and modification programs.
- Aircraft modification experience with a focus on avionics systems (communications, navigation, flight control, etc.).
- Participation in Material Review Board (MRB) activities, including disposition of non‑conformances related to avionics hardware or installations.
- Experience with new avionics product introduction and transition to production environments.
- Experience supporting aircraft modification projects from concept through implementation, including close interaction with shop floor personnel and avionics technicians.
Estimated Starting Salary Range: $85,768.30 - $. Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors, such as candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non‑U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance.
