Job Description

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Manufacturing Integration Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The Manufacturing Integration Engineer will support current and future rail vehicle projects by acting as the main engineering link between design, manufacturing, quality, testing, commissioning, supply chain, and project teams. The role will help resolve production issues, support design reviews, share engineering information promptly, prepare clear technical reports, and keep stakeholders informed about engineering changes.

The position is based in Hagerstown, MD.

Accountabilities
  • Resolving manufacturing and assembly issues by understanding the design, identifying practical solutions, and preparing clear reports to support corrective action.
  • Supporting active projects by working closely with design, manufacturing, quality, testing, commissioning, supply chain, and project teams.
  • Supporting reviews that confirm the build meets the approved design.
  • Keeping stakeholders informed throughout the project, from design and supplier discussions through to production support.
  • Checking that the built product matches the approved design and providing timely feedback where issues are found.
  • Making sure design and system information is accurate, up to date, and shared with the teams that need it.
  • Adopting and following standard company processes to support consistent ways of working across projects and teams.
  • Supporting reliability, maintenance, and safety activities related to rail vehicle design and production.
  • Identifying design improvements that support safety, reliability, ease of manufacture, and ease of maintenance.
  • Working independently while staying aligned with wider project and engineering teams.
Required Skills/ Knowledge

5+ years of experience in designing rolling stock, rail vehicles, or other complex mobile equipment.

Ability to understand design requirements and apply them in practical engineering work.

Good understanding of how rail or transit vehicles operate.

Ability to read engineering drawings, spot potential issues, and suggest design improvements.

Understanding of reliability, maintenance, and failure analysis methods.

Strong communication skills, including the ability to work well with teams based in other countries.

Ability to write clear technical reports and communicate well in English.

Strong problem-solving skills.

Ability to build good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Desired Skills/ Knowledge

Experience using CAD software such as Creo or AutoCAD.

Professional engineering registration, certification, or progress toward registration is preferred.

Education/Qualifications and Relevant Experience in # of years

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

The salary range for this position is $98,000 to $ 163,100 per year. Final pay is determined by the candidate’s experience, skillset and ability level, internal equity and location.

In accordance with the DOT’s FRA and FTA programs, Hitachi’s substance screening program tests pre-employment candidates and current employees, as required for safety-sensitive positions.
