Military Fellowship Program: Mechanical Engineer

Overview

SNC's Military Fellowship Program partners with programs such as Skill Bridge and Hiring Our Heroes to provide fellowship opportunities to service members transitioning to the civilian workforce. These fellowships include up to six months of on-the-job industry training for eligible service members. During this time, participants gain valuable work experience in the civilian sector and build professional networks as they prepare for their transition to full-time civilian work.

NOTE:

You must be currently serving on active duty to be eligible for this fellowship program. This program is not for veterans who have already separated from the military.

Our Mechanical Engineers research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and improve cutting‑edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll conceptualize and deliver complex mechanical structures and systems and your technical duties include the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.

• Currently serving as ACTIVE DUTY military and be eligible to participate in the DoD Skill Bridge Program
• Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline
• Typically 2 or more years of relevant experience (Higher education may substitute for relevant experience)
• Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices
• Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools
• Familiarity working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams

• Experience applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
• Understanding of engineering simulation such as Finite Element structural Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Thermal Analysis
• Background in the aerospace and defense industry
• Knowledge of industry‑standard mechanical design principles, including parametric design, model‑based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing, and production processes

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non‑U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF) handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants.

Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations, and illegal drug use.
