Position DutiesThe Comptroller of Maryland, located in downtown Annapolis, is currently seeking to hire a supervisor for our Taxpayer Accounting Section. This is a dynamic, fast-paced, high-volume position that requires someone who is detail oriented and has good organizational skills. If you are someone with great interpersonal and verbal communication skills, sound knowledge of accounting principles, standards and regulations and able to motivate people to achieve a high level of accurate and efficient production, this is the job for you!
This position works on a management team that oversees the daily operations of the Taxpayer Accounting Section. The selected candidate will supervise a team of professional employees who are responsible for reviewing and validating tax return submissions for accuracy and completeness. Supervision duties include the review of daily account work for accuracy, approval of higher dollar values, assistance with tax law, administrative policy, and processing issues, maintenance of attendance and leave records, and any other mission-related duties assigned by agency management.
This position is eligible for a hybrid office and telework schedule, following the successful completion of a probationary or training period.
May be requested to work evenings and/or Sundays during tax season. For the purposes of this statement, tax season shall be defined as the period beginning 1/15 and closing 5/15.
Minimum QualificationsEducation:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate, including or supplemented by a course in bookkeeping or accounting.
Experience:
Four years of experience performing work in tax assessments, collections, investigations, examinations, adjustments or taxpayer services within two or more of the specialized fields of revenue administration or performing work in tax assessments, collections, investigations, examinations, adjustments or taxpayer services within the motor fuel/motor carrier tax field. The specialized fields may include sales and use tax, income tax, admissions and amusement tax, withholding tax, alcohol and tobacco tax, and any other revenue levy authorized by the legislature.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree, with twelve credit hours in accounting or auditing, from an accredited college or university for two years of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in finance technician classification or finance technician specialty codes in the financial clerical and technician field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
- For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Federal and Maryland state taxes, forms, and regulations.
- Prior supervisory experience.
- Excellent punctuality, organization, and communication skills.
- Experience prioritizing and handling high work volumes.
- Professional experience using Microsoft Office products.
