Main Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Follow a pre‑established schedule for assembly and installation of electronic and related electro‑mechanical systems on transit vehicles, including propulsion, train control, pneumatic supply and brake control, air conditioning, annunciation, communications, door control, lighting, and auxiliary electrical supply.
  • Perform modifications to rail vehicle electronic and electro‑mechanical systems as directed by engineering and supervisory staff.
  • Work with engineering and other production staff regarding modifications.
  • Use diagnostic test equipment and precision measuring devices; fabricate new testing equipment as required for new components and systems.
  • Perform secondary dismantling and repair of electronic and electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Collaborate closely with transit vehicle mechanics in performing primary repairs.
  • Read and interpret diagrams, engineering drawings, manuals, schematics, and work orders.
  • Document work performed and parts and materials used; follow specified safety procedures.
Job Skills , Experience and Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience, preferably in light rail or transportation environments.
  • Experience with low and high voltage (VDC), medium voltage (VAC), and relay logic.
  • Experience using test equipment such as digital multimeters, pneumatic gauges, and current probes.
  • Must own and maintain a basic hand‑tool set.
  • Experience with precision measuring equipment (e.g., caliper, micrometer, pie tape).
  • Experience with electrical crimp and mechanical torque techniques.
  • Must maintain a safe work environment.
  • Experience working in diverse and busy team environments.
  • Ability to read drawings, blueprints, and diagrams.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Must read and perform procedures; diagnose and make electrical & mechanical adjustments using provided procedures.
  • Attention to quality control and customer service.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
Education
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • College or technical trade school degree/certificate preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
Physical Demands
  • Frequently required to walk; occasionally to stand, sit, use hands to handle objects, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, or hear.
  • Must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 40 pounds, and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
Work Environment
  • Works in a warehouse/production environment with occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts; noise level usually loud.
  • Exposure to manufacturing areas and potential hazards as required.
