Position Overview

The Registered Nurse – Behavioral Health provides safe, therapeutic, and evidence-based nursing care to pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients in a short-stay crisis stabilization behavioral health setting. The nurse utilizes psychiatric nursing principles, therapeutic communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support patient safety, stabilization, and recovery while adhering to organizational and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver patient-centered behavioral health care using the nursing process and evidence-based psychiatric practices

• Perform comprehensive psychiatric assessments and ongoing evaluations of patient status

• Manage patients with acute behavioral health conditions including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, trauma-related disorders, and suicidal behaviors

• Administer medications safely and monitor therapeutic and adverse effects

• Implement and follow seclusion, restraint, and physical hold protocols in accordance with policy

• Utilize therapeutic communication, psychoeducation, and de-escalation techniques

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans

• Ensure patient and staff safety through consistent monitoring and use of alert systems

• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the EPIC electronic medical record

• Adhere to infection control, safety standards, and regulatory requirements

• Float to assigned behavioral health units based on census and clinical competency

Required Qualifications

• Licensure:
Active RN license



Experience:

- Minimum 1.5–2 years of recent psychiatric/behavioral health nursing experience
- Strong child and adolescent behavioral health experience preferred
- Travel experience required



Certifications:

- BLS (required)

• Other Requirements:
- EPIC experience required
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
- Must be willing to float across child, adolescent, and adult behavioral health units

- Days: 1:7
- Nights: 1:10
- Weekends: 1:7

- 14-bed pediatric unit
- 17-bed adolescent unit
- Two 7-bed crisis stabilization units

• Number of Beds: 45

• Average Daily Census: 40

Clinical Skills & Competencies

• Management of anxiety, mood, psychotic, trauma-related, and substance use disorders

• Suicide risk assessment and safety interventions

• Medication administration and monitoring

• Physical hold, seclusion, and restraint protocols

• Blood glucose monitoring

• Psychoeducation and therapeutic treatment modalities

• Age-specific care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and older adult populations

• Crisis intervention and emergency behavioral health response
