THIS IS NOT A MED TECH POSITION

Full Time / 40 hours per week – Monday‑Friday (no weekends) – 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM – Pay range: $29.00 – $36.00

Summary

The primary purpose of a Certified Medication Aide is to assist in the administering of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, Nurse Supervisor, Charge Nurse, and Director of Nursing.

Responsibilities
  • Accurately and safely prepares, administers, and documents oral and/or topical medications commonly used in the facility and that may be ordered by the attending physician or Medical Director.
  • Verifies that any medications brought into the facility by a newly admitted resident are examined and identified by the attending physician or the facility pharmacy.
  • Follows the labeling policies and practices of the facility.
  • Ensures that all medications administered are properly labeled.
  • Assists with medication charting as directed by the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse.
  • Follows facility procedures for charting medications.
  • Follows facility policies and procedures for destroying medications; assists in carrying out these rules under the direction of the Director of Nursing, including documentation requirements.
  • Assists in documenting and removing medications that are discontinued by the attending physician.
  • Follows facility procedures governing drug receipt errors, including notifying the delivery source and the Director of Nursing.
  • Ensures that medication is returned and reordered except emergency drugs.
  • Ensures that documentation of the drug receipt error includes a written error report, signed by an observer/witness and you.
  • Follows facility procedures in holding medications for residents who are transferred from the facility or when the attending physician discontinues medications.
  • Accurately measures, records, and reports the vital signs of residents.
  • Observes and verifies that medication is ingested or applied as directed; documents any instance where prescribed medication is not administered, including reasons for refusal.
  • Promptly notifies the Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, or Director of Nursing of any errors or reactions to medications by residents.
  • Follows the medication card practices of the facility.
  • Ensures that no medication is administered without a written, signed, dated order from an attending licensed physician.
  • Follows the facility procedure for recording the order in the resident’s clinical record, including the type, route, dosage, frequency, and strength of each medication.
  • Verifies the identity of the resident before administering the medication treatment.
  • Assists the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse in monitoring and documenting all aspects of self‑administering.
  • Promptly notifies the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse of any failure of a resident to properly take any “self‑administered” medication.
  • Follows established guidelines concerning the storage of drugs and biologicals.
  • Is familiar with the meaning and usage of common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms relative to the administration of medications used by the facility, pharmacists, and physicians.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the resident’s comprehensive assessment, as necessary.
  • Follows the policies and procedures of Fahrney‑Keedy governing the administering of medications to residents.
  • Notes and reports errors in the administration of medications.
  • Performs administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, charts, reports, and submits these as required.
  • Maintains a friendly, productive, working relationship with other members of the department and facility.
  • Reports any complaints or grievances made by residents to the Director of Nursing.
  • Participates and cooperates with any facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Director of Nursing.
  • Agrees not to disclose assigned user  and passwords for accessing resident/facility information and promptly reports suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Director of Nursing.
