Job Title: Nurse / LPN or RN

Shift: Evening or Night / Part Time

Location: Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown

Compensation: $29.00 - $36.00 per hour, plus generous shift differentials

SUMMARY
  • Provide the highest degree of quality nursing care to the residents following Fahrney-Keedy’s policies and procedures.
  • Supervise day‑to‑day nursing activities in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Monitor the CMA’s and GNA’s assigned to the floor to ensure residents receive quality care.
DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY

As an LPN/RN, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibilities, and accountability necessary for your duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Make rounds at the beginning and end of shift.
  • Perform admission assessments on new and readmitted residents.
  • Consult with physicians and coordinate resident care, treatment, and rehabilitation.
  • Create and maintain a warm, positive environment on the unit.
  • Report complaints and grievances immediately.
  • Participate in nursing reports upon reporting for duty.
  • Follow policies concerning exposure to blood and body fluids.
  • Review resident records for orders, medications, and diets.
  • Review lab reports and notify physicians of results.
  • Notify physicians and responsible parties of accidents, incidents, or changes in resident condition.
  • Administer medication, catheterization, tube feeding, suctioning, dressing changes, wound care, and other nursing services; document accurately.
  • Obtain specimens for lab tests.
  • Monitor seriously ill residents and assess skin for breakdown.
  • Implement preventative measures for skin breakdown and treat decubitus ulcers appropriately.
  • Ensure GNA’s and CMA’s provide care per each resident’s plan and wishes.
  • Meet with residents and family members as necessary.
  • Notify funeral homes as required after resident death.
  • Administer all medication and treatments per physician orders and policies.
  • Verify resident identity before medication administration.
  • Maintain sufficient medication supply and document narcotics accurately.
  • Chart and document all care, incidents, and changes in condition electronically.
  • Report training and competency records of GNA’s and CMA’s to the Director of Nursing.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment and comply with infection control policies.
  • Participate in safety drills and maintain equipment in proper condition.
  • Follow safe handling procedures for hazardous chemicals and supplies.
  • Assist in emergency evacuations and report any hazards or incidents.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Continuous movement throughout the facility.
  • Frequent interruptions.
  • Interaction with hostile or emotionally upset residents, family, and visitors.
  • Potential work beyond normal hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Call‑backs during emergency conditions such as severe weather.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals and infectious diseases.
  • Participation in educational programs.
  • Risk of injury from falls, burns, odors, and other workplace hazards.
RESIDENT RIGHTS
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information.
  • Treat residents with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  • Provide all nursing care in privacy.
  • Obtain permission to enter all resident rooms.
  • Report grievances and complaints to the Nursing Supervisor or Charge Nurse.
  • Report any abuse or misuse of resident property to the Abuse Coordinator.
  • Honor resident refusals of treatment and report them to your Supervisor.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must possess knowledge and skills for age‑related resident care.
  • Must contribute to teamwork and exemplify team concepts.
  • Must be capable of independent decision‑making when warranted.
  • Must be tactful in dealing with staff, residents, family, and the public.
  • Must work harmoniously with other staff.
  • Must be patient, cheerful, and enthusiastic, handling difficult residents.
