Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse, Med/Surg Telemetry / Intermediate Care Float Pool – Maryland

Start Date: October 26, 2026

Location: Hagerstown, Maryland

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: 36 hours per week; weekend coverage required (12 weekend shifts per contract); rotating float assignment between Medical/Surgical Telemetry units and Intermediate Care units; patient ratios 1:4 to 1:6

Highlights:

  • Float Pool position providing care across Medical/Surgical Telemetry and Intermediate Care units
  • Diverse patient population including post-MI, NSTEMI, DKA, septic shock, respiratory distress, trauma, stroke, renal failure, and post-surgical patients
  • Epic EMR system (recent experience required)
  • Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and more
  • Advanced clinical skills utilized: cardiac and vasoactive drip management, ventilator care, arterial lines, chest tubes, and central line management
  • 13-week assignment with potential for extension after 90-day separation period

Requirements:

  • Active RN license in Maryland
  • Minimum 2 years of Telemetry experience in an acute care hospital setting
  • Minimum 2 years of Intermediate Care (IMC/PCU/Stepdown) experience in a hospital setting (hard stop requirement)
  • Recent Epic EMR experience required
  • Previous travel nursing experience required (first-time travelers not accepted)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
  • Must be comfortable with patient ratios of 1:4 to 1:6
  • Must be willing to float across all Medical/Surgical and Intermediate Care specialties
  • COVID-19 vaccination required (no exemptions)
  • Influenza vaccination required (no exemptions)
  • Two-step PPD required
  • Candidates residing within 50 miles are not eligible
  • Previous charge experience preferred

Clinical Skills Utilized:

  • Cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Vasoactive and cardiac drip titration (insulin, heparin protocols)
  • Ventilator care and tracheostomy management
  • Arterial line and central line management
  • Blood product administration and monitoring
  • Post-cardiac catheterization care and sheath removal
  • BiPAP/CPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula management
  • Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur Evac systems)
  • Care of patients post-neurosurgery, post-cardiac surgery, and orthopedic trauma
  • Advanced wound care including wound vac management

Patient Populations:

Adult and geriatric patients with conditions including myocardial infarction, unstable angina, congestive heart failure, hypertensive crisis, acute respiratory distress, septic shock, traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, DKA, renal failure, and post-surgical care across multiple specialties including cardiac, trauma, orthopedic, bariatric, and general surgery.
