Position: Service Year Option - Security Officer
Job Summary

The Security Officer provides a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors by monitoring facilities, enforcing policies, and responding to incidents. This role plays a critical part in preventing safety risks and ensuring a secure healthcare environment.

Minimum Qualifications

* Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required

* Maryland resident

* Individuals eligible for the Maryland Service Year Program (generally ages 18-24)

* Experience:

Minimum six months of security experience preferred

* Licensure/Certification:

* Maryland Security Guard Card (or ability to obtain within 90 days)

* Current BLS (CPR) certification required

* De-escalation training required within 90 days

* Valid driver's license required for certain duties

* Skills & Abilities:

* Knowledge of security or law enforcement practices

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills

* Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations

* Observation and problem-solving skills

What You'll Do

* Conduct interior and exterior patrols of facilities and grounds

* Monitor entrances, parking areas, and key security posts

* Respond to incidents and ensure safety of patients, staff, and visitors

* Maintain security presence in high-risk areas (e.g., Emergency Department)

* Provide directions and assistance to visitors and patients

* Document security activities and incidents

* Enforce policies related to safety, parking, and access control

What the Job is Really Like

* You'll spend much of your time walking, observing, and monitoring environments

* The role requires constant awareness and attention to surroundings

* Some situations may involve conflict, stress, or emergencies

* You must remain calm and professional under pressure

* The job includes both routine patrols and unpredictable situations

* Strong customer service is important-you'll regularly assist visitors

* Hospital campus with indoor and outdoor responsibilities

* Frequent walking, standing, and patrol activities (see physical demands on page

* Exposure to various environments, including emergency and behavioral health areas

* Requires sustained alertness and quick decision-making

* Combination of independent work and team coordination
