Ryder is hiring a Diesel Technician Trainee in Hagerstown, MD. Weekly pay and strong benefits are offered.

Training compensation is paid while you learn to become a Ryder Diesel Mechanic Technician.

  • Hourly Pay: $21.00 per hour
  • Schedule:

    Monday–Friday;
    Weekends OFF
  • Hours:

    Second Shift 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Zero to one year mechanical experience with diesel engines preferred
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Proficient in written and verbal English communication
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Strong technical aptitude; ability to learn and maintain equipment and machinery
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems quickly
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Represent Ryder professionally and engage employees and customers competently
  • Must have a track record of performance and good attendance
  • Strong personal accountability and proven results achievement
  • Competency in basic computer skills and Microsoft Office
  • Beginner knowledge of machines and tools, including design, use, repair, and maintenance
  • Beginner knowledge of shop management systems
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A preferred
  • DOT safety regulated position; regulated tech
  • Safety‑sensitive position; meets state minimum age and work hour requirements
Regulated Tech
  • Must obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
  • Pass a Ryder drug test
  • Pass a DOT physical
  • Pass a Ryder road test
  • Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
Important Note

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification, motor‑vehicle records check, a road test, and/or customer‑specific badge or background requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Move heavy‑duty vehicles into or out of the yard, wash bay, service shop, or delivered to rental shop; wash and detail vehicles manually or using automated equipment; fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles properly while adhering to all safety policies; record fuel activity and maintain fuel and DEF inventories.
  • Perform multi‑point inspections on inbound units as required; check tire pressure and tread, fluid levels, lights, washing windows, change tires, inspect refrigeration units, and report service or driver issues to the shop.
  • Maintain fuel island area to Six Sigma standards and policies; perform some facility maintenance; perform minor maintenance tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Attend and complete all Technician Training Development Program requirements and assessments. Training includes hands‑on and online learning as well as performing tasks learned. The program includes:
    • Service Island Training
    • Service Island Multi‑point Inspection (includes hand‑held)
    • Vehicle Fueling and Washing
    • Environmental Safety & Spill Response
    • Safe Driving
    • Service Island Organization & Cleanliness (6S Standards)
    • Technician I Training
      • Preventive Maintenance
      • Tire and Wheel
      • Service Bay Tool
    • Technician II Training
      • HD Electrical
      • Air and Hydraulic Brakes
    • Performs other duties as assigned
