Ryder is hiring a Diesel Technician Trainee in Hagerstown, MD. Weekly pay and strong benefits are offered.
Training compensation is paid while you learn to become a Ryder Diesel Mechanic Technician.
- Hourly Pay: $21.00 per hour
- Schedule:
Monday–Friday;
Weekends OFF - Hours:
Second Shift 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm

- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- Zero to one year mechanical experience with diesel engines preferred
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Proficient in written and verbal English communication
- Demonstrated customer service skills
- Strong technical aptitude; ability to learn and maintain equipment and machinery
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems quickly
- Work independently and as part of a team

- Competency in basic computer skills and Microsoft Office
- Beginner knowledge of machines and tools, including design, use, repair, and maintenance
- Beginner knowledge of shop management systems
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A preferred
- DOT safety regulated position; regulated tech
- Safety‑sensitive position; meets state minimum age and work hour requirements
- Must obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
- Pass a Ryder drug test
- Pass a DOT physical
- Pass a Ryder road test
- Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification, motor‑vehicle records check, a road test, and/or customer‑specific badge or background requirements.
Responsibilities- Move heavy‑duty vehicles into or out of the yard, wash bay, service shop, or delivered to rental shop; wash and detail vehicles manually or using automated equipment; fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles properly while adhering to all safety policies; record fuel activity and maintain fuel and DEF inventories.
- Perform multi‑point inspections on inbound units as required; check tire pressure and tread, fluid levels, lights, washing windows, change tires, inspect refrigeration units, and report service or driver issues to the shop.
- Maintain fuel island area to Six Sigma standards and policies; perform some facility maintenance; perform minor maintenance tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Attend and complete all Technician Training Development Program requirements and assessments. Training includes hands‑on and online learning as well as performing tasks learned. The program includes:

- Performs other duties as assigned
