Position: Chaplain (Part-Time) - Federick, MD

Part‑time chaplain position located in Frederick, MD. Candidates must live within 20 miles of Frederick.

Position Summary

Chaplains are the frontline staff fulfilling the mission and Christian ministry of MCHAP, serving company employees and their families through pastoral care, counseling, and support.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a messenger and conveyor of faith, mission, and purpose.
  • Interact with companies, their employees, and the community with character, personal, and spiritual disciplines.
  • Make brief regular visits to company worksites to build trust and friendship with employees.
  • Visit employees or immediate family members at hospitals, nursing homes, funeral homes, family residences, or other sites.
  • Provide confidential pastoral discussions for employee and family issues, including family matters, divorce, serious illness, aging care, grief, parenting, financial stress, or other personal issues.
  • Refer and coordinate specialized assistance for employees and families with specific needs.
  • Assist in planning, conducting, or attending funerals for employees or their families and provide post‑funeral support.
  • Make jail visits as needed.
  • Work with companies to notify families and employees of death or serious injury and provide encouragement to those impacted.
  • Offer post‑termination care to laid‑off or terminated employees to facilitate transition.
  • Facilitate, but not lead, spiritual enrichment activities; support employee‑led activities.
  • Provide literature and resources to assist employees with life issues as requested.
  • Represent companies to clients or customers when appropriate, involving ministry services (e.g., serious illness, accident, trauma, funerals).
  • Participate in new employee orientation to explain the Employee Care Service and the Chaplain Team role.
  • Respond to additional duties requested by executive leadership within the scope of the Letter of Agreement.
Requirements
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary and interfaith team, accepting diverse lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.
  • Effective listening, interaction, and presentation skills; manage family and staff under stressful circumstances; maintain accurate documentation.
  • Spiritual maturity and commitment to a Christian lifestyle and MCHAP values; possess a fundamental understanding of the Holy Bible; affirm a saving faith in Jesus Christ; actively participate in a biblically based church.
  • Professional diplomacy, patience, courtesy with diverse groups; establish and maintain effective relationships; provide exceptional customer service.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; maintain emotional stability when dealing with human suffering, emergencies, and stresses.
  • Analytical skills to identify and solve problems; interpret policy and procedures; keep others informed.
  • Computer proficiency using Google Suites, Microsoft Office, or equivalent software; capable of learning new technology programs.
  • Active state driver’s license and state minimum auto insurance for the state(s) where servicing clients.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must pass a pre‑employment background check.
Work Environment
  • This is a remote field position; work surroundings depend on client sites (manufacturing, hospitals, office buildings, funeral homes). Environments may vary in temperature, noise, and light exposure.
