Overview
The Materials Handler I works semi-independently in a fast-paced warehouse environment, receiving detailed supervision and guidance. Receives daily workload assignments from Project Manager and/or foreman. This individual assists with moving, packing, wrapping, inventory, and transport of household goods in a professional manner. He/she works collaboratively within a team.
Responsibilities- Assist with moving, packing, wrapping, inventory, and storing of household goods and/or commercial equipment for residential and commercial customers
- Wrap, pack, load and unload household or commercial items
- Safely handle and secure fragile items during the moving process
- Assemble and disassemble furniture as needed - Receives household effects from transportation service providers via freight or long-haul moves.
- Unloads household effects and general freight from delivery trucks via warehouse docks.
- Identifiesdamaged,lostor missing items and notifies the Project Manager or warehouseforemanimmediately.
- Exercises extreme care when handling each piece of personal effects.
- Wrapsand packs household effects to prepare for long term storage.
- Assembles and repairs wood shipping crates, using a variety of electric and pneumatic powered hand tools, such as saws, drills, nail guns, etc.
- Performs manual lifting of furniture and other material duringentireshift.
- Receives training on the safe operation on a variety of material handling equipment to include6,000lband
10,000lbcapacity forklifts, mechanized floorsweeperand scrubber. - Assists with the movement of tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles inside the warehouse.
- Ensures all safety procedures are being followed.
- Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate moving tasks
- Follow established safety guidelines to prevent accidents and damage to property - Maintains the warehouse facility, notifies the project manager of any damages and/or maintenance issues.
- Maintains all governmentfurnishedequipment.
- Other duties as assigned
- Possess a minimum one year of verifiable experience in the transportation and commercial moving industry.
- Forklift certification required.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with other crew members, clients, and commercial laborers.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background investigation and pre-employment drug test
- Ability to obtain andmaintaina PUBLIC TRUST clearance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Have a basic working knowledge of the household moving/freight/transportation industry.
- Have an ability to clearly communicate (write,readand speak) the English language.
- Have a physical fitness level that allows for prolonged standing and associated manual labor.
- Able to independently lift 80 pounds repeatedly and on a regular basis.

- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required tosit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists,handsand/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required towalk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to80pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

- The employee will normally work in a warehouse thatmaintainsan inside temperature between 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter months and will be exposed to extreme hot weather conditions during the summer months.
- Breaks will be taken in a temperature-controlled office environment, with occasional exposure to electronic office equipment.
- While performing essential functions of the job in the main areasof operations,employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
USD $22.00/Hr.
