Job Description

WSP is searching for an Intermediate Transmission Line Engineer for our Hailey, e. You will be involved in projects with our Power Delivery Hailey Line Team and help meet our clients’ objectives.

This Opportunity

In this role you will support the engineering, analysis, and design of high voltage overhead transmission lines, working under the guidance of experienced engineers in WSP’s Power & Energy business. You will participate in project execution, field coordination, and technical development tasks essential to safe and reliable transmission line design.

This position is ideal for early‑career professionals passionate about the electric utility industry and looking to build a strong technical foundation in transmission engineering.

Your Impact
  • Technical Design & Analysis
    • Assist with PLSCADD modeling for line layout, spotting, and structure analysis.
    • Prepare design calculations for structures, foundations, conductor systems, and line components.
    • Support development of plan & profile drawings, structure loading trees, material lists, and construction packages.
    • Evaluate route constraints, design criteria, clearances, terrain conditions, and reliability requirements.
    • Support QA/QC processes for drawings, calculations, and deliverables.
  • Project Support & Coordination
    • Assist in preparing engineering reports, permit exhibits, and cost estimates.
    • Participate in internal design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination (civil, environmental, substation, geotech).
    • Perform occasional field reviews or site visits to support engineering validations.
  • Professional Growth & Collaboration
    • Engage in Early Career development tools including Career Compass and mentorship programs.
    • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and contribute to a culture of safety, integrity, and technical excellence.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post‑education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with design‑build processes and relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, and compliance practices.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others and expressing ideas effectively to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Proficient self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, CAM.
  • Strong interest in transmission line engineering and electric utility infrastructure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced consulting environment.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without need for future sponsorship.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
  • Active or member of local professional practice organizations.
  • Coursework in structural analysis, steel/wood/concrete design, foundations, soils, surveying, or power systems.
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as PLSCADD, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Micro Station, or MATHCAD.
