Long Term Substitute Special Education Aide II The OpportunityHalf Moon Bay schools are looking for caring, steady aides to step into long-term Special Education Aide II assignments, weeks of full-day work where you become a familiar, trusted face for students with IEPs. Every assignment looks a little different: some are general inclusion classrooms, others call for close 1:1 behavior support with students who have moderate to severe needs. Wherever you land, the heart of the job is the same.
You’re there so a student can show up, learn, and feel supported, day after day.
- Be there for your student(s): Provide 1:1 or small-group support to students with IEPs in inclusion, resource, or moderate/severe classrooms or other learning environments, working under the direction of the Principal and alongside the certificated teacher.
- Help with the everyday stuff: Support transitions, restroom breaks, and lunchroom routines so the school day flows smoothly.
- Open doors to learning: Help students access grade-level instruction right alongside their peers.
- Bring calm and consistency: Understand, implement, and model positive, student-centered behavior support plans, and step in gently when a student needs help de-escalating or staying safe.
- Keep everyone in the loop: Track and share observable behavior and academic data with the classroom team.
- Pitch in where needed: Handle clerical and classroom tasks as the school team asks.
- Clearances: You will need to complete a background check (Live Scan/fingerprinting) and quick TB risk assessment. We reimburse your background check cost in your paycheck after your 10th day of teaching.
- Experience: Familiarity with positive behavior support strategies is a big plus.
- Specialized experience: If you’ve supported non-verbal students or students who need 1:1 behavior support, that experience will serve you well in some of these assignments.
- Heart: Patience, flexibility, and a steady, growth-minded way of showing up for kids.
Whatever your background, if you care deeply about meeting students where they are, we’d love to hear from you.
Where You’ll Work & Your Schedule- Location: On-site at Half Moon Bay schools. This is hands-on, in-person work, so being able to get to Half Moon Bay reliably each day matters.

- Pay: $24.52 per hour, paid weekly every Friday.
- Employment type: You’re a W-2 employee with access to medical and 401(k) options.
- Bonuses: Extra pay for high-need and last-minute requests, plus $100 when you refer a friend.
- Priority access: Show up consistently and do great work, and you may earn Swing Hero status, giving you first look at future local requests.
