About Our Opportunity

As a Casual Clerk 3 (Proofreader) with the Hansard Office, you will contribute to the preparation and publication of official legislative transcripts. Working independently and as part of a collaborative team, you will proofread and edit transcripts to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established style standards. You may also assist with transcription activities as operational needs require.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with exceptional written communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and a strong interest in language, research, and public affairs.

Primary Accountabilities

As the Clerk 3, you will:

  • Proofread and edit draft transcripts of House proceedings, committee meetings, and other official proceedings.
  • Verify grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and formatting accuracy.
  • Ensure transcripts accurately reflect speakers' words and intended meaning.
  • Conduct research to verify proper names, terminology, acronyms, and references.
  • Apply Hansard style and formatting standards consistently.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet publication deadlines.
  • Assist with transcription and related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this opportunity, you have:

  • High school diploma.
  • 3 years of relevant experience.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

You demonstrate:

  • Exceptional English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and editing skills.
  • Strong research and fact-checking abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills.
  • Sound judgment, reliability, and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word and fast, accurate keyboarding skills.

Assets

The following would be considered assets:

  • Ability to communicate in French.
  • Knowledge of parliamentary procedures.
  • Experience working with transcription or editing services.

Equivalency

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

Working Conditions

The House of Assembly typically sits during spring and fall legislative sessions. During these periods, workloads increase significantly and work may extend into evening hours. Overtime may be required to ensure timely publication of proceedings.

Pay Grade: CL 18

Salary Range: $26.41 - $29.54 Hourly
