Reporting to the Senior Financial Analyst, the Data Analyst – Finance and Sustainability will be responsible for supporting Killam’s internal and external reporting with a focus on data analysis for portfolio-level energy consumption. This role works closely with members of the finance team, as well as working cross functionally with property management and operations. The successful candidate must have exceptional data analysis, organizational and interpersonal skills, and strong attention to detail.

Key Areas of Responsibil
ity:

• Collect and analyze data related to portfolio-level energy, water, waste, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

• Prepare and maintain Killam’s GHG inventory in accordance with the GHG Protocol.

• Support the review, maintenance, and ongoing updates of Killam’s Energy Management Software (EMS).

• Validate and review annual energy consumption data, cost models, and forecasts to ensure accuracy and reliability.

• Conduct utility rate research and compile utility rate assumptions across Canadian energy markets.

• Monitor and manage utility consumption models that impact forecasting and budgeting activities, including oversight of sub-metered properties to ensure accurate tenant billing.

• Collaborate with accounting, property management, development, operations and leasing teams to optimize data collection and analysis.

• Support the Energy and Sustainability Teams with annual reporting and ongoing utility data analysis.

• Analyze operational expenses to generate insights that support business decisions and help reduce building operating costs.

• Assist with the annual budgeting process and quarterly forecasting.

• Perform other ad hoc accounting tasks and projects as assigned to support senior management.

Qualifications
:

• University degree in business, finance, sustainability, data analytics, accounting or related field of study.

• Minimum of 1-2 years’ relevant experience (preferably in real estate).

• Proven ability to synthesize financial information into a concise story and communicate it effectively.

• Motivated self-starter with a desire to drive change and challenge the status quo.

• Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as attention to detail.

• Familiarity with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and carbon accounting methodologies is considered an asset.
