Job Description
We are looking for a Food Service Worker to join our culinary team at the Tendercare Living Centre on McNicoll Avenue. Responsibilities include assisting with plating and serving meals, cleaning serving areas and equipment, and following established policies, procedures, and standards.
Responsibilities- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Observe time limits for meal serving.
- Maintain foods at proper serving temperature.
- Assist cooks in cleaning and preparing uncooked foods such as salads, vegetables, and fruits.
- Follow basic instructions in preparing simple foods such as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
- Clear plates and trays, load, and operate the dishwasher.
- Clean pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
- Participate in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
- Adhere to departmental policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
- Assemble nourishment carts.
- Stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in facility meetings as assigned.
- Attend in‑service education programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program that meets the requirements of the Ontario Long‑Term Care Homes Act.
- If enrolled, complete the program within three (3) years of the hire date.
- Experience in lieu of the identified educational or training requirements such as institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality environments.
- Current Food Handler's Certificate.
- Previous dietary experience in a Long‑Term Care (LTC) home (0‑1 year(s)) preferred.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to read, write, and understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
- Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
- Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting.
- Availability for workdays, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.

- Hourly compensation: $23.76 - $25.39.
