Job Description
AECOM Environment team is seeking an Environmental Scientist to assist with environmental investigation programs, including environmental drilling, soil, groundwater, and soil vapor sampling. The role will be based in Halifax, NS, and is a full‑time position within a team of technicians and engineers under the guidance of senior scientists, professional engineers, and geologists.
Key Responsibilities
Perform a variety of tasks to support project staff.
Gather and maintain specified records of scientific data for the supervisor, including environmental sampling, operations and maintenance activities, and inspections at client sites.
Assist with calculations, set up and operate equipment, inspect equipment and installations for compliance with specifications, and maintain proper project documentation.
Collect and enter data, applying technical principles and theories under supervision.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field with 4 years of related experience.
Willingness to travel within the province/country for work, including extended travel.
Valid and unrestricted driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of related knowledge or experience.
Groundwater monitoring – purging and sample collection from monitoring wells.
Drilling – environmental drilling, ground disturbance procedures, soil description, and monitoring well installation.
Soil sampling – field screening and soil sample collection procedures.
Field notes – taking organized, detailed field notes and recording observations.
Safety – leading and participating in field meetings, overseeing subcontractors, developing and implementing safety plans, recognizing hazards, and exercising stop‑work authority.
Strong teamwork, ability to listen to requirements, and work well with others.
Excellent attention to detail and a thorough approach to work.
Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
Flexible and hardworking attitude.
Ability to work outdoors, often in inclement weather, physically able to walk long distances in rugged terrain and carry up to 50 lbs of equipment.
Additional Information
