Our Substations group is currently looking to add Journeyman Electricians to support the expansion of existing substation infrastructure as part of the twinning of a transmission line between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Reporting to the Substation Construction Foreman, Electricians will lead and participate in the construction of medium and high voltage electrical systems within a substation environment, ensuring project execution is delivered effectively and safely. This project will increase reliability for customers by strengthening the inter‑provincial power grid connection and supporting the continued expansion of renewable energy production.

This is a field‑based position working 10‑hour days on a schedule of 5 days on / 2 days off at sites in Salisbury, NB;
Memramcook, NB; and Onslow, NS. This is a unionized worksite; candidates must be willing to join the applicable union if selected.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead and participate in the construction of medium and high voltage electrical systems.

Perform substation steel erection, cable tray building, and cable trench, bus, HV equipment and steel structure installation.

Oversee the installation and commissioning of medium and high voltage transformers, switch gear, and associated equipment.

Perform cable installation for medium and high voltage power distribution systems.

Terminate medium and high voltage cables, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.

Interpret medium and high voltage electrical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to plan and execute installations and terminations.

Manage material deliveries and inventory of materials as per the assigned work fronts, identifying potential risks and reporting to Site Supervisors and Foremen.

Ensure Valard's equipment and tools are used safely, accounted for daily, and any defective tools are tagged out of service and reported.

Maintain daily diary for record keeping purposes.

Follow Valard's Safety Policies and Procedures.

Work with on‑site Safety Advisor to address any safety concerns brought forth by crews and/or the client.

Requirements

4 years of experience in the construction industry.

Journeyman Electrician (Red Seal) certification.

Knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, and quality control.

Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend blueprints and understanding of SCADA systems.

Comprehension of pertinent basic Equipotential Bonding and Grounding Principles and lock‑out tag‑out procedures.

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Skills / Qualifications

Demonstrated expertise in medium and high voltage electrical systems, particularly in construction settings and cable terminations.

Experience in medium-to-high‑voltage substation construction.
