Job Summary The incumbent is responsible to perform electrical related work on campus.
Key Responsibilities
Installs, repairs and maintains electrical devices such as but not limited to motors, motor controls, panels, branch circuits and variable speed drivesInstalls low voltage and data wiringInstalls and maintains fire alarm systemsBends, assembles and installs conduits and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittingsPerforms preventive maintenance tasks on designated electrical equipmentMakes recommendations for upgrading electrical systems based on best economical/professional judgementPerforms all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act, Canadian Electrical Code, as well as University and Government rules and regulationsMaintains a clean work environmentPerforms other duties as requiredNote
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
Valid Construction Electrician certificate of qualification as recognized by the Nova Scotia Department of Education. Red Seal Designation an asset.Completion of certified trades school program preferredFive years recent and related journeyperson experience in construction and/or maintenance in a commercial or institutional environment on voltages up to 600 VAC.Communication Cabling Specialist certification an assetExperience with addressable and non-addressable fire alarm systems an assetFamiliar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act, Canadian Electrical Code, as well as University and Government rules and regulationsAbility to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and equipment specificationsAbility to take directionReliable and punctualGood communication and organizational skillsMust be willing and able to work overtime and respond to after-hours calls as requiredAbility to work at heightsFamiliarity with microcomputers preferredKnowledge of the tools of the tradeAbility to direct others in a foreperson capacity an assetGeneral safety, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Lock Out / Tag Out, Arc Flash and WHMIS training an assetAssets
